Theophany 63: “The Hardened Message and the Holy Seed”Text: Isaiah 6:9–13

Theme:
When obedience feels fruitless—but God is still at work.
When God Sends You Anyway
Last week, Isaiah said the words every servant longs to say:“Here am I. Send me.”
But what comes next is not what we expect.
God answers Isaiah’s willingness with a difficult assignment:
“Go and tell this people…”
And then something startling—Isaiah’s message will not soften hearts. It will harden them. It will not gather crowds. It will scatter them.
This is the moment where calling becomes costly.
Isaiah and The Mystery of a Hard Message
Isaiah is sent to speak truth to people who will not listen:
Hearing, but not understanding
Seeing, but not perceiving
This is one of Scripture’s sobering realities:the same truth that awakens some can harden others.
Faithfulness is not measured by response—it is measured by obedience.
“How Long, O Lord?”
Isaiah asks the question every weary servant eventually asks:
“How long?”
God’s answer is not brief:
Until cities lie ruined
Until the land is desolate
Until exile comes
In other words: Keep going, even when it looks like nothing is working.
The Hidden Hope: The Holy Seed
Then, almost quietly, comes a promise:
“The holy seed is the stump in the land.”
After judgment…After loss…After everything seems cut down…
Something remains.
A stump.A seed.A future.
God is not finished—even when everything looks finished.
For Us Today
We live in a world not unlike Isaiah’s:
Truth is often ignored
Faithfulness can feel unseen
Obedience doesn’t always produce visible results
But Isaiah reminds us:
You are not responsible for outcomes
You are responsible for obedience
God is always preserving a holy seed
What looks like failure may actually be faithfulness in disguise.
Closing Prayer
Lord, Give us the courage to say “send me,” and the endurance to keep goingwhen the results are hidden from our eyes.
Help us trust that You are always at work, even in the silence, even in the resistance, even in the waiting.
In Jesus' Name we wait. Amen.

English Song
O-B-E-D-I-E-N-C-E Lyrics
Obedience is the very best way,
To show that you believe.
Doing exactly what the Lord commands,
Doing it happily.
Action is the key - do it immediately,
Joy you will receive.
Obedience is the very best way to show that you believe.
O-B-E-D-I-E-N-C-E
Obedience is the very best way to show that you believe.
We want to live pure we want to live clean.
We want to do our best.
Sweetly submitting to authority,
Leaving to God the rest.
Walking in the light, keep our attitudes right,
On the narrow way.
For if you believe the Word you receive,
You always will obey!
