Abraham had waited decades for this son. Isaac was not merely a child; he was the child of promise, born when hope seemed biologically and humanly impossible. Every dream Abraham carried for the future was wrapped up in this one boy. And it is precisely here that God speaks the hardest words a father can hear: “Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest…” (Genesis 22:2)
