The strained relationship between Paul and the Corinthian church has been healed. Their repentance has brought joy both to Paul and to Titus, who witnessed their renewed faithfulness firsthand. Having celebrated this restoration, Paul immediately turns to another evidence of spiritual maturity—the grace of generous giving. Repentance and generosity are not separate subjects. Both flow from hearts that have been captured by the grace of Christ.
