The Lasting Legacy of Jean Calvin and the Birth of Reformed Theology
I met Calvin in French Literature class at Rutgers in 1966.
It was a tough meeting; the Institutes is a challenging read, and I struggled.
Later, I debated his TULIP views, believing I had some choice in the matter.
Later still, I learned how Calvin loved the Bible, and saw it as the final authority on our salvation.
Read today's blog and discover how to appreciate the Bible and Calvin's work in helping us understand it.

Irenaeus Against Gnosticism and the Power of New Testament Scriptures
The Devil is a liar and tricks people into sin and Hell.
---He does this through Heresy, a lie about Christian doctrine.
---Gnosticism says Jesus is only a Spirit without a human body.
---The bible tells us how to know this is a lie.
Every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: 1 John 4:3

The Extraordinary Journey of Sadhu Sundar Singh from Despair to Divine Revelation
"Sundar Singh, Evangelist in India and teacher of the faith, 1929," reads the Anglican calendar for June 19.
His biography and works all centered around a visit from Jesus, who called him to preach in India and Tibet.
He struck many as mystical and weird, but he was faithful unto death in 1929.
Two SPIRITUAL LIVES people also had visits from Jesus, Thomas Aquinas, and Bob Dylan.

Columba : Missionary, Miracle Worker, Soul-Lover
Columba was born in County Donegal, Ireland about 30 years after Patrick had completed his missionary work. He was of the Irish royalty with a chance of becoming “a high king of Ireland,” but he gave this up to serve the Lord first in his own country and later as a missionary to Scotland, then still pagan. From conception, his life seems to have been blessed. His mother saw an angel before Columba was born who told her the child she was carrying would be "remembered among

Abraham, Friend of God
F.B. Meyer (1847-1929) is a great storyteller. I enjoyed reading this book immensely. He is also a great preacher, infusing the story of Abraham* (1996-1821) with lessons that make moral points. We will look at some of these today.

Gregory of Nyssa: Life of Moses
I met Gregory by reading his Life of Moses.
I love the Bible and reading biographies, and Gregory was 2 for 2.
Gregory retold the simple Exodus narrative of Moses and found a process of spiritual growth we all can use.
It's a continuous process of improvement flowing from the Word of God.
Find a copy and read it prayerfully; you will grow.

Athanasius: Against the World
We need an Athanasius (299-373) today! The World is against the truth. Not just the truth table, logic truth but against THE TRUTH, the Son of God who said, I am the way, the Truth and the Life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” John 14:6

Patrick, Slave, Shepherd, Missionary
St. Patrick's journey is a powerful reminder of resilience and purpose. From his beginnings as a slave to becoming a missionary, his story inspires us to overcome adversity.
I met St. Patrick at McGovern's Bar in Newark, NJ, where dozens were drinking themselves drunk to celebrate this saint.
-----Pātricius [paːˈtrɪ.ki.ʊs], the only name he used, was a holy man of God who knew Him well
-----God spoke to him in visions and sometimes audibly and called him to be His own.

Martin Luther 1483—1546 Faith Alone

---He loved the Roman Catholic church and worked hard to reform its corruption but to no avail.
---His protests against salvation that could be bought with money began the Protestant Reformation.
As you read, you will see his genius, courage, and faithfulne
